Chikitsa Pratipoorti Yojana: Jharkhand’s Lifeline For Ailing Construction Workers

Registered construction workers in Jharkhand suffering from serious illnesses now have a dedicated route to financial relief through the Chikitsa Pratipoorti Yojana, a scheme run by the state’s Department of Labour, Employment, Training & Skill Development. The scheme is a 100% state-sponsored initiative open only to residents of Jharkhand, and it targets workers who have already registered with the Jharkhand Building and Other Construction Worker Welfare Board, commonly known as the JBOCWW Board.

To qualify, an applicant must be a Jharkhand domicile aged 18 or above who is registered with the JBOCWW Board and engaged in construction trades such as masonry, carpentry, electrical work, painting or portering. The illness itself must fall within a defined list that includes cancer, heart disease requiring surgery, kidney disease requiring surgery, incurable mental illness, AIDS, bone marrow or liver transplant, spinal surgery, major vascular disease and several other conditions specified by the scheme. Benefits under the scheme can be claimed only once per disease per beneficiary, and payouts are released after a district-level committee reviews and recommends each case.

Applying is entirely online through the Comprehensive Labour Management System portal at shramadhan.jharkhand.gov.in. First-time users must register on the site with their name, email and mobile number, verify both through an OTP, and receive login credentials by email and SMS. Once logged in, applicants navigate to Services, then BOC Scheme Benefit, then Application Form, where they fill in their BOC registration number, personal details, Aadhaar number and district, select the Chikitsa Pratipoorti Yojana from the scheme list, and upload the required documents before submitting.

The list of documents workers need to keep ready includes an Aadhaar card, a residential or domicile certificate, proof of identity, an eSHRAM card, a passport-sized photograph, proof of construction worker registration, bank account details, an income certificate and proof of the medical condition being treated. After submission, every application passes through a three-level approval chain — a clerk, then the labour superintendent, then the District Level Committee — and applicants can track progress anytime under Services, BOC Scheme Benefit, Application Status by entering their application ID.

According to the scheme’s official FAQs on myScheme, benefits are typically due within three months of registration, and the entire application process is free of charge, with no reserved quota tied to gender. The scheme does not accept offline applications, so anyone without portal access will need to register online before applying. Only one scheme can be selected per application form, and workers domiciled outside Jharkhand are not eligible, regardless of where they are currently employed.

The Chikitsa Pratipoorti Yojana is administered by Jharkhand’s Department of Labour, Employment, Training & Skill Development. Full guidelines and the application user manual are available on the department’s Shramadhan portal, and interested workers are advised to complete their JBOCWW Board registration first if they have not already done so, since it is a precondition for applying.
