Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and actor Jackie Shroff handed out Ayushman Bharat Health Cards to women waste pickers at a Chembur health camp on July 7.
Ayushman Bharat Health Cards and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits were distributed to women waste pickers on July 7 by Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and film star Jackie Shroff.
The distribution took place at a free health check-up and TB awareness camp held at the Fine Arts Cultural Centre in Chembur, Mumbai, which the Governor inaugurated.
The camp, along with the NAMASTE Scheme, was launched as part of the ‘TB Mukt Mumbai’ campaign — an initiative of Maharashtra Lok Bhavan carried out in association with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Among those in attendance was Sushila Sable, Vice President of the International Alliance of Waste Pickers, alongside Asha Marathe, Corporator and Chairperson of the Ward Committee.
BMC was represented by Additional Municipal Commissioners Prajakta Lavangare Verma and Dr. Vipin Sharma, and by Dr. Kiran Dighavkar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner for Solid Waste Management.
Jyoti Mhapsekar, Dr. Prashant Narnaware, Secretary to the Governor, and women waste pickers from the Deonar area were also present at the event.
