Green energy push continues in Visakhapatnam as new solar cell unit breaks ground

In recent years, several green energy plants have started construction in the Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli districts, and the latest addition is a Rs 1,600-crore solar cell manufacturing unit coming up in the Parawada Industrial Park on the outskirts of the port city.

Greenteck Private Limited is setting up the 3.5-gigawatt capacity facility after the government allotted 34 acres of land in the industrial park for the project, which is expected to provide direct employment to around 1,000 people.

Parawada Industrial Park is India’s first industrial township, set up across 2,400 acres as a Special Economic Zone, and is primarily known as a hub for bulk drug, API and chemical manufacturing. The land for the solar unit was previously proposed for an MSME park, but the government has since redirected it to the factory complex and instructed officials to identify alternative land for the MSME park nearby.

The solar cell manufacturing unit is expected to further boost green energy development in the region, building on the momentum of other renewable energy projects already under construction in the area.
