60 Seats, 2,031 Applicants: Why This Lucknow MCA Course Is So Hard To Get Into
Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University's MCA programme drew 2,031 applications for only 60 seats this year, as the Lucknow campus recorded its highest postgraduate application count in four years.
Sixty seats. Two thousand and thirty-one applications. That is the arithmetic facing anyone hoping to join the MCA programme at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) in Lucknow this year, making it the single most competitive postgraduate course on the campus.
The MBA programme is nearly as tight, with 1,855 applications chasing 90 seats. ‘Our professional programmes continue to dominate student preference,’ said Prof Amit Kumar Singh, the university’s admission coordinator, pointing to the pull of career-oriented courses over the rest of BBAU’s postgraduate offerings.
Those two courses sit inside a bigger number: BBAU received 18,589 postgraduate applications in total this year for 2,611 seats across 55 programmes, all admitted through the CUET-PG entrance test. That is the university’s highest application count in four years, up from 15,965 last year and roughly 15,000 in both 2023 and 2024.
The rise stands out because it runs against the national trend. Singh said CUET-PG registrations for central universities nationwide fell from 5.5 lakh candidates last year to 3.5 lakh this year. ‘Despite this decline, applications to BBAU are showing an increasing trend,’ he said, calling the figures ‘really encouraging’ for the university.
With some BBAU courses now attracting more than 40 applicants per seat, this year’s postgraduate admission cycle is shaping up to be one of the most competitive the university has seen.
